Volleyball splits pair of matches at Cross-Divisional


IRVING, Texas -- The Bulldogs dropped a four-setter to Johnson & Wales (Colo.) and secured a three-set win over University of Dallas in Friday action at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross-Divisional Tournament in Irving, Texas.

TLU lost the first match to JWU in four sets, taking game two, ending with an overall count of 20-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-23. Cailey Young and Savhannah Kitchens each accounted for 10 kills each, while Bryten Mitchan tallied seven for the Bulldogs.

Kelly Jurden recorded a double-double leading in assists with 38 and in digs with 22. Jaci Chambers picked up 21 digs for the Bulldogs. 

In the late match, the Bulldogs defeated Austin College 25-14, 25-11, 25-18 as Young led TLU in kills, tallying a whopping 15. Peyton Sulak recorded eight kills, while Mitchan added six kills. 

Chambers played strong defense, leading the Bulldogs with 27 digs. Sulak recorded four block assists for the Bulldogs.

Jurden racked up another 33 assist for the Bulldogs during the three-set sweep over the Crusaders.

Bulldog Volleyball will play their final match of the Cross-Divisional tomorrow afternoon against No. 2 Colorado College at 2 p.m.
