Texas Lutheran Finishes Third, Rodriguez Named Female Athlete of the Meet at SCAC Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's track and field wrapped the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships with a third place finish on Sunday tallying 174.50 points over the two-day meet.

Junior Julissa Rodriguez (Deer Park/Deer Park) was named Female Athlete of the Meet in the post-meet Awards Ceremony Sunday for her performance in throws competition. Rodriguez produced 34 points in the meet with a win in the hammer on Saturday, a runner-up finish in the javelin with a mark of 32.08m (105' 3"), and third-place finishes in the shot put and discus.

In the discus, Rodriguez would be joined on the podium by sophomore Kirsten Smith (Yoakum/Yoakum) who would win the event for her first career SCAC Championship with a 39.39m (129' 3") mark.

Senior Trinity Murdock (Katy/Paetow) would repeat as the SCAC's fastest woman, winning the 100m dash with a season-best time of 12.11 seconds - moving her into the top 30 in Division-III as of Sunday night.

Taylor Norrell (Lake Jackson/Brazosport) earned bronze in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.36 seconds while the 4x400m relay team comprised of Kamilah Tanner (Killeen/Robert M. Shoemaker), Natalie Garcia (McAllen/McAllen), Ja'Keia Williams (La Grange/La Grange), and Katie Kostelnik (Hallettsville/Sacred Heart Catholic) also earned a third place finish with a time of 4:04.34. Katelyn Brown finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.52m (4' 11.75").
