Strong performances at Trinity Open have Bulldogs all over early national rankings

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's and Women's Track & Field's showing at the Trinity Open on Saturday have the Bulldogs atop or near the top of several early-season national rankings.

The TLU Women have 15 rankings in the NCAA Division III Top 25.

Ashley Myers (Ingleside/Edna) is third in both the 100 and 200 meters. Myers posted a time of 12.50 seconds in the 100 at Trinity, and she ran a 25.56 in the 200.

Ashley Rynard (Temple/Temple) is second in the 800 with a time of 2:19.91, and Ashlee Hooks (Meridian/Meridian) ranks sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch).

Rynard won the 800 at the Trinity Open by four seconds. She will race Friday (prelims) and hopefully Saturday (finals) in the 800 at the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in Boston.

Cortnee Priour (Victoria/Goliad), a returning All-American in the long jump, ranks third in that event after a leap of 5.51 meters (18-1) at the Trinity Open. She won the long jump at the Trinity meet.
Priour also is seventh in the triple jump after a mark of 10.92 meters (35-10). She was second in the event at Trinity.

Hannah Kipp (Ledbetter/Round Top-Carmine) is eighth in the discus after a toss of 37.99 meters (124-8). She is 12th in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.06 meters (131-5).

Lydia Lyssy (Poth/Poth) is 12th nationally in the discus. 

Kipp and Lyssy were fourth and fifth in the discus, respectively, at the Trinity Open.

Dejah Carr (Houston/Channelview) ranks 11th in the hammer with a mark of 40.18 meters (131-10). Carr also ranks 21st in the shot put with a toss of 10.88 meters (35-8.5).

Carr was fifth at the Trinity open in the hammer, and Kipp was sixth.

Tia Hart (Edna/Industrial) is 10th nationally in the javelin with a mark of 35.07 meters (115-1).  Hart was sixth in the javelin at the Trinity meet.

Kylee Garcia (Wichita Falls/Rider)  is 14th in the 1,500 with a time of 5.00.18, and Emma Morgan (Gonzales/Shiner St. Paul) sits 20th in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.75 meters (9-0.25).

Siobhan Patterson (Marble Falls/Marble Falls) has a No. 22 national ranking in the triple jump after a jump of 10.31 meters (33-10) at the Trinity meet.

The TLU Men's Track & Field squad has 30 student-athletes in the NCAA DIII Top 25 at this time.

Garrett Garza (Round Rock/Stony Point), competing in the shot put at the indoor national meet on Saturday, won the Trinity Open shot put. Garza set the new outdoor school record in the event with a toss of 16.78 meters (56-0.75). Fellow Bulldog Jalen Starks (San Antonio/Antonian) was sixth at Trinity with the seventh-ranked throw in DIII, a mark of 13.72 meters (45-0.25).

Garza also is third in the discus with a toss of 45.44 (149-1) and 25th in the hammer with a mark of 36.63 meters (120-2). In the discus at Trinity, Garza was second overall and the first collegiate thrower.

Connor Thompson (Nederland/Nederland) has the No. 1 ranking in the 400 with a time of 48.83. Thompson was second at the Trinity meet. He was the top collegiate runner in the race.

Dillan Wendel (Wharton/Boling) is second nationally after a time of 1:57.30 in the 800. Wendel was third (second among collegians) in the race at the Trinity Open.

Jacob Guercia (Forney/Forney) is sixth in DIII in the hammer after a mark of 43.97 meters (144-3) at Trinity. Guercia was fourth overall at Trinity.

Caleb Calderon (Austin/Akins) set the new outdoor school record in the 5,000 with a time of 15:53.60. He is 20th nationally for that distance. Calderon was sixth in the race Saturday.

Calderon is 18th nationally in the 1,500. He posted a time of 4:08.11 at Trinity. Calderon finished fifth at the Trinity meet.

Christopher Torres (San Antonio/Warren) is the No. 1-ranked 400 hurdler in the NCAA Division III after a time of 56.00 at the Trinity Open. Torres was fifth, behind four Angelo State hurdler, in the meet Saturday.

Caimen McDonough (Canyon Lake/Canyon Lake) is fourth nationally in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.31. McDonough is 18th in the 110 hurdles after a time of 16.41 at Trinity. Nathaniel Howell (San Antonio/MacArthur) is 21st in the 110 hurdles at 16.47.

Tyler Dykes (Iola/Iola) is 22nd in the 100 with a time of 11.36. In the 200, Ezrael Powell (San Antonio/Marshall) and Thompson come in at sixth and 13th, respectively, with times of 22.46 and 22.77.

In the high jump, Brandon Deering (Marble Falls/Marble Falls) and Heath McDonough (Canyon Lake/Canyon Lake) are tied for 13th nationally with jumps of 1.80 meters (5-10.75).

In the pole vault, Chad Wieland (Seguin/Navarro) is sixth with a clearance of 4.30 meters (14-1.25), and TJ Stephenson (Marble Falls/Marble Falls) is 25 with a mark of 3.85 meters (12-7.5).

Powell is third in the rankings in the long jump, with a leap of 6.88 meters (22-7), and William Guerrier-Gattis (Bishop/Bishop) and Donovan Williamson (San Antonio/Brennan) are tied for 11th with leaps of 6.50 meters (21-4).

Powell is second in the triple jump after a leap of 13.64 meters (44-9). Guerrier-Gattis (13.32), Howell (12.70), and Williamson (12.67) are seventh, 12th, and 14th, respectively.

Ryan Geiger (Shiner/St. Paul) is ninth nationally in the javelin with a heave of 48.07 meters (157-8) at Trinity. He finished second overall on Saturday. He was the top collegiate thrower. Guercia finished fifth in the javelin and now ranks 18th nationally after a mark of 44.44 meters (145-10).
