TLU wins SCAC quarterfinal over Centenary, advances to semifinal round on home field

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs are heading home to play in the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament after scoring a 1-0 tournament quarterfinal win Saturday over No. 4 seed Centenary (La.).

The Bulldogs, the No. 5 seed, are the predetermined hosts of the semifinal and final rounds of the SCAC Tournament. The Bulldogs now get to play, and not just host, in the tournament after the win over the Ladies.

Raquel Morris, TLU's senior forward, delivered the match-winning goal in the 83rd minute. Morris scored with an assist from Samantha Martinez

Morris' goal was the second of her career in the SCAC Tournament. Her only other goal in tournament play came as a freshman in a 1-0 semifinal win over Schreiner back in 2017.

TLU will play top-seed Trinity at 11 a.m. Friday at TLU's Gustafson Field in the SCAC semifinal.

TLU improved to 4-5-1 with the win. Centenary's season is over with a final record of 8-4.

Centenary took four shots and had one corner in the final seven minutes of the match following the Morris goal, but the Bulldogs held strong, posting their third shutout of the season.

TLU held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Centenary finished the game with a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Elana Rivera made three saves in goal for TLU.

TLU's win over Centenary marked the first SCAC Tournament win for the Bulldogs since 2017. This was the first meeting all-time in SCAC Tournament history for TLU and Centenary.

TLU is into the SCAC semifinal round for the sixth time in program history. In the previous five semifinal appearances, TLU is 2-3 with its most recent win coming in 2017.
