Swift takes 3rd overall, grabs 1st Team All-SCAC; Bulldogs finish shot out of 3rd
BLANCO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran junior Summer Swift (San Marcos/Fentress) made a strong defense of her 2018 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship by finishing third overall in 2019 and leading TLU within a shot of a third-place team finish.
Swift posted a 83 on Tuesday after an 81 on Monday for a two-round total of 164.
As a team, the Bulldogs improved by 20 shots, from 363 to 343, on Tuesday and nearly jumped ahead of Schreiner for third place. Schreiner ended the tournament at 705. The Bulldogs produced a 706.
Southwestern won the tournament going away. The Pirates (634) won by 46 shots over Trinity (680). With Schreiner third and TLU fourth, Centenary and Johnson & Wales - Denver rounded out the field.
Emily Campbell of Southwestern won the SCAC individual crown with a pair of 76s for a a 152 winning score. Campbell edged teammate Leilani McDaniel by two shots.
Swift joined Campbell and McDaniel on the All-SCAC First Team. Valentina Olivieri and Katherine Dyo, both of Southwestern, also made the First Team. Raquel Hill of Trinity rounded out the First Team honorees.
TLU's Kristen Cox (Utopia/Utopia) shaved seven shots off her Monday score and moved up to a tie for 13th. Kaley Martin (Cypress/Cypress Woods) improved by three shots and finished in a tie for 16th.
Halie Lewis (Schulenburg/Schulenburg) knocked off 12 shots from her Monday total and shot an 86 Tuesday. She moved up to 19th. Kristen Laird (Seguin/Seguin) finished off her senior season with an eight-shot improvement. She finished 22nd overall.
