Swift wins Hal Sutton title; Bulldogs jump to fourth in team standings

BOSSIER CITY, La. -- Texas Lutheran junior Summer Swift (Fentress/San Marcos) won the Centenary College Hal Sutton Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a final round score of 76.

At The Golf Club at StoneBridge, Swift's 76 propelled the Bulldogs to a 27-shot team score improvement over Monday's round. TLU jumped from sixth to fourth in the final team standings with a team round of 354.

Swift won medalist honors by three shots over Lindy Patterson of the University of Texas at Dallas and Charnay Williams of Tyler Junior College.

Swift posted a two-round total of 160. She shot an 84 on Monday.

Bulldog teammate Kristen Cox (Utopia/Utopia) moved up to 10th overall with a second-round 81.

Cox aced the par 3, 13th-hole on Tuesday. She used a 7-iron on the 162-yard hole.

Kaley Martin (Cypress/Cypress Woods) improved on her Monday score by eight shots, from a 97 to an 89. Martin moved up to 21st.

Halie Lewis (Schulenburg/Schulenburg) and Kristen Laird (Seguin/Seguin) came home in 34th and 37th, respectively.

UT Dallas took the team title with a two-day score of 670. Tyler JC (681), East Texas Baptist (725), TLU (735), Jacksonville Community College (743), Williams Baptist (758), and Centenary (805) rounded out the field.

TLU returns to golf competition on March 30-31 with play in the University of California at Santa Cruz Invite. The tournament will be played at Pacific Grove Golf Links in Pacific Grove, Calif.
