Bulldogs Defeat Austin College, 56-31

SHERMAN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team continued Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play defeating Austin College, 56-31, on the road Friday night inside Hughey Gymnasium as the Bulldogs improved to 16-5 and 9-3 in SCAC play on the season.

The 31 points are the fewest points the Bulldogs have allowed this season and the second lowest opposing point total since becoming an NCAA institution, only outdone by the 2002 squad that held Schreiner to 28 points. The 16 wins match the highest win total under head coach Troy Patterson.

Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) led the Bulldogs offensively with 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 1-of-2 from deep. Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) finished with nine points and seven rebounds while Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) added eight points and seven rebounds. Elexis Morado (Kingsville/Santa Gertrudis Academy) scored a season-high six points and grabbed a season-high six rebounds off the bench in her first game back from injury.

The Bulldogs would lead for the entire game Friday night, with the first quarter being the most competitive period as they carried a 17-10 lead into the second quarter.

Texas Lutheran would then go on a 29-9 run over the course of the second and third quarters, including holding the 'Roos to just two points on 1-of-15 shooting in the second quarter.

TLU would lead by as many as 32 points in the third quarter and would cruise through the remainder of the game.

The Bulldogs earned their ninth wire-to-wire victory of the season. Every available player recorded minutes for the tenth time this season.

Texas Lutheran wraps their final road trip of the 2024 season tomorrow, Feb. 3, as they travel to Irving to face the University of Dallas Crusaders. Tip-off is set for 6 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
