Texas Lutheran Opens Road Trip with 80-56 Win Over Centenary

SHREVEPORT, LA -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team (12-3, 5-1 SCAC) defeated Centenary, 80-56, inside the Gold Dome in Shreveport, Louisiana, Friday night. With the win, Texas Lutheran matches the 2016-17 team for the best 15-game start since becoming an NCAA institution in the 2000-01 season.

The Bulldogs controlled play in the game, more than doubling up the Ladies on the glass to hold a 51-25 advantage, and held a 26-16 advantage in points in the paint. Davi'Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens) recorded a game-high eight rebounds while Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) collected six.

Junior guard Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos) recorded a game and career-high 19 points to lead the Bulldogs in scoring for the second consecutive game. Presley also had a team-high four steals. Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) finished with 15 points while Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) and Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos)  joined them in double figures with ten points each.

The Ladies opened the game on a 7-2 run before Texas Lutheran would battle back to take a 10-7 lead into the first media following an Audry Hornaday (Mission/Sharyland) three-pointer. TLU never trailed in the contest again.

After carrying a 20-16 lead after the opening period, TLU pushed their lead to as much as ten points and would carry a 37-28 lead into halftime. Sansano would lead the Bulldogs with nine points, all coming from beyond the arc, at the halftime break.

Texas Lutheran extended its lead out of the break to 13 points at the 6:06 mark following a Moehrig layup. Centenary would chip away at the Bulldog lead over the final six minutes to trail 54-48 entering the final period.

The fourth quarter was all TLU, as the Bulldogs extended their lead to as many as 26 points. TLU would outscore the Ladies 26-8 in the final period led by nine from Presley.

The Bulldogs continue their three-week, five-game road trip on Sunday as they travel to Houston to face the St. Thomas Celts. Tip-off is set for 2 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
