Pacific Lutheran Upends Texas Lutheran, 50-47

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team fell to Pacific Lutheran, 50-47, on Wednesday evening inside Memorial Gymnasium. Texas Lutheran fell to 5-1 on the season as they continue one of the best starts in program history.

All-SCAC point guard Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) finished with a team-high 18 points and four steals. Sansano scored 14 of her points in the second quarter. Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) ended with 10 points for the Bulldogs. Bri Wilson (Austin/Cotulla) finished with eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs started slow - shooting 9.1% and trailing 12-4 after the first period. The Bulldogs dominated the middle part of the game with a 24-point quarter led by 14 from Sansano to take a 28-23 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs held the Lutes to three points in the third but struggled offensively as well - only managing seven points in the third with both teams shooting below 20 percent.

The fourth quarter the Lutes offense came alive - shooting 53.3% from the field and 66.7% (8-of-12) from beyond the arc while the Bulldogs shooting woes struggled.

Two free throws from Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos) tied the game 47-all with 28 seconds remaining before a Pacific Lutheran three pointer with two seconds remaining would serve as the game winner. Sansano would attempt to tie the game but her three-point attempt would fall short as time expired. 

The three-point line proved to be the difference as Pacific Lutheran would connect on 14-of-24 three-point attempts while TLU would only make 3-of-18.

Texas Lutheran will take their Thanksgiving break before continuing their homestand on Monday, Nov. 27, when it hosts Concordia in non-conference action in their final tune-up before SCAC play.
