Texas Lutheran Cuts Down Lady Oaks, 81-64

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's basketball improved to 3-0 Friday night as they took home a wire-to-wire victory over Lincoln University (CA), 81-64. The 3-0 start is the best start under head coach Troy Patterson and was highlighted by season-best outings from former Texas A&M International teammates, Audry Hornaday (Mission/Sharyland) and Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos).

Hornaday, who is playing in just her third game since the 2021-22 season following an injury at Texas A&M International, poured in a career-high 16 points (3-8 3PT) in addition to three rebounds. In typical Kayla Presley fashion, the San Marcos High product stuffed the stat sheet for the Bulldogs with 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.

Joining Hornaday and Presley in double-figures were Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) and Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels). Sansano finished with 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists while Mulkey recorded her second double-double in three games as she totaled 11 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, Texas Lutheran shot 40% from the field and dished out 21 assists while holding the Lincoln University Lady Oaks, an independent scholarship program, to 27.9% shooting.

The Bulldog offense had an energetic start Friday night, as dynamic passing allowed the Bulldogs to get solid looks in the paint against their undersized opponents, shooting 52.4% from the field in the opening period while forcing eight Lincoln turnovers.

TLU stretched its lead to 11 entering halftime and led by 19 entering the fourth as the patented Bulldogs defense kept the Lady Oaks under 15 points in both the second and third quarters. Hornaday heated up in the third with eight points on 3-of-5 shooting, including 2-of-2 from deep.

The Lady Oaks could never quite get a run going as the Bulldogs forced 27 turnovers to walk away with the 81-64 win, highlighted by four in double-figures. TLU would maintain a 48-42 advantage on the glass and 50-26 advantage in the paint Friday night.

Texas Lutheran is back in action tomorrow afternoon (Nov. 18) as they travel to Austin to face NCAA Division II's St. Edward's. Tip-off is set for 1 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
