Texas Lutheran Dominated the Paint in 61-40 Win Over Concordia (TX)

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team defeated the Concordia University Tornados, 61-40, Sunday afternoon in Concordia Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs would struggle early but a second half surge that saw the Bulldogs outscore the Tornados 36-17, holding their opponents to single digits in both periods, proved to be the difference.

Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos), Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST), and Brianna Wilson (Austin/Cotulla) all finished with 12 points to help lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 start to the season. Sansano recorded four steals and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds to lead the team. Presley matched her career-high of five assists to lead the Bulldogs.

Texas Lutheran only managed seven points on a 3-for-17 (17.6%) start as the Bulldogs trailed 11-7 after a first quarter that saw both teams struggle from the field. The Bulldogs responded with an 18 point second quarter - led by five points from Sansano - to take a 25-23 lead into halftime.

Texas Lutheran would have their best quarter in the third - scoring 20 points on 52.9% shooting. Presley would take over in the third, scoring eight points in the period.

TLU would lead for the entire duration of the fourth quarter - leading by as many as 21 points. TLU would hold Concordia to 20% shooting in the second half as they pulled away to close the game. The Bulldogs dominated the paint outscoring the Tornados 46-6 in the paint. Texas Lutheran also outscored Concordia 22-4 in points off turnovers.

TLU returns to Seguin on Friday, Nov. 18, for a non-conference matchup against Lincoln (CA). Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM at Memorial Gymnasium and will be streamed on TLU+. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
