Navarro, Lacy Shine as Texas Lutheran Tops St. Thomas, 58-43

HOUSTON, TX -- A dominant first three quarters from Texas Lutheran saw the Bulldogs top the St. Thomas Celts Friday night at the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center, 58-43 in their first matchup in nearly two years due to COVID.

Jenesis Navarro (San Antonio/Lee) led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 4 assists while Kailey Lacy (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) joined Navarro in double figures with 11 points - making three of her six three-point attempts. Sydney Shaw (Lockhart/Lockhart) and Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) cleaned the glass equally for the Bulldogs on Friday night with both finishing with a team-high seven rebounds. With the win, Texas Lutheran improves to 12-6 overall and 9-1 in the SCAC. St. Thomas falls to 4-12, 2-8 SCAC.

After the Celts drew first blood, the Bulldogs took control via a complete team effort as they commanded a 17-8 lead after the first quarter. Seven different Bulldogs would find the bottom of the net in the opening quarter.

The Bulldogs kept momentum squarely on their side in the second quarter once again holding the Celts to single digits as they carried a 28-16 lead at halftime. Morgan Rodriguez (New Braunfels/Canyon) would lead all scorers with seven points at the break.

A Jenesis Navarro three would get the Bulldogs scoring started in the second half. Navarro and Kailey Lacy would combine to dominate the third quarter, combining for 14 of the Bulldogs 21 third quarter points - their highest scoring quarter of the night. The Bulldogs would jump out to a 49-29 lead entering the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs would capitalize on their early efforts and cruise to a 58-43 final tally.
