Texas Lutheran nearly pulls off road upset of Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs took a late lead on the Austin College but could not make the lead stick in a 68-65 setback to the Kangaroos Saturday in Hughey Gymnasium.
 
Jordan Estrada gave TLU its final lead of the night when she made a jumper at the 3:46 mark. The Bulldogs took a 62-60 lead. The game remained tied for most of the remaining three minutes until Ally Longaker made a couple of free throws for AC with 28 seconds remaining.
 
With AC holding onto a one-point lead with 19 seconds on the clock, Longaker added two more made free throws.
 
The Bulldogs had a chance to tie with a three-pointer in the final three seconds, but the shot did not fall.
 
Austin College improved to 20-3 overall and to 13-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
 
TLU dropped to 9-14 overall and to 7-9 in the SCAC.
 
Austin College beat TLU by 30 in Seguin on Jan. 18, but the Bulldogs were in Saturday's game from start to finish.
 
AC held a 36-34 lead at the break and extended the lead to nine, 51-42, at the end of the third quarter.
 
TLU out-scored Austin College 23-17 in the final quarter.

Cami Davis led TLU with 18 points, three rebounds, and three steals. She made four three-pointers.
 
Tara Molina added 11 points, eight assists and two steals.
 
Reagan Chiaverini paced the Kangaroos with 16 points and eight rebounds. Longaker scored 11 and collected seven rebounds and three assists.
 
TLU plays its final two home games of the season next weekend - on Friday and Saturday - when its hosts Johnson & Wales-Denver and Colorado College.
