St. Thomas edges Texas Lutheran 77-74 in Seguin

SEGUIN, Texas -- Sheridan Hopkins and Bresha Orange combined for 56 of St. Thomas's 77 points to lead the Celts to a 77-74 road win Friday over Texas Lutheran.
 
St. Thomas improved to 16-5 overall and to 11-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
 
TLU fell to 7-13 overall and to 5-8 in the SCAC.
 
Hopkins scored 31 and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Orange added 25 points and seven rebounds. No other St. Thomas player had more than six.
 
The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth affair with neither team leading by more than six down the stretch.
 
St. Thomas took a 68-64 lead with 4:54 to play after Orange converted a three-point play.
 
TLU pulled within a point at the 3:15 mark on a Tara Molina three-pointer.
 
Orange responded with a three-pointer of her own 20 seconds later to push the Celts lead back to four, 71-67.
 
St. Thomas took its biggest lead of the quarter, at 73-67, with an Aerial Starks layup.
 
Consecutive buckets by Heaven Dandridge and Morgan Rodriguez pulled TLU back within two points with under a minute remaining, and the Bulldogs' Cami Davis tied the game at 73 with a steal and a layup with just 36 seconds on the clock.
 
Ten seconds later, St. Thomas came down the court and found Hopkins for the go-ahead jumper.
 
TLU's Rodriguez made one-of-two at the line on the Bulldogs' next possession, and the Celts' Orange knocked down two free throws with 11 seconds to play to give her team a 77-74 lead.
 
The Bulldogs had a look at a corner three with two seconds to play, but the ball bounced out and rolled free as time expired.
 
The Bulldogs had four players in double figures. Rodriguez and Davis each scored 13, and Dominique Campos and Abby Hroch registered 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Davis led TLU in rebounds, with six. Campos had five assists.
 
TLU is back in action Saturday with a 4 p.m. conference home game against Centenary.
