Texas Lutheran falls to 0-2 with non-conference road loss at McMurry

ABILENE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball dropped to 0-2 on the young 2019-20 season with a 76-62 non-conference loss to McMurry Saturday afternoon in Abilene.
 
TLU had the McMurry lead down to five with 5:33 to play in the game. The War Hawks' Sarah Doherty made a three-pointer at the 5:16 mark, and Taya Bridges added another three at the 4:43 mark to push the lead back to 10, at 66-56.
 
Doherty drained another three with 3:57 remaining in the game to give McMurry a 69-57 advantage. TLU could get no closer than 12 points in the final three minutes of action.
 
McMurry improved to 2-0 overall.
 
Reyna Skyler led McMurry with 20 points. She added six rebounds and four steals. Destiny Matthews added 16 points off the McMurry bench.
 
The War Hawks shot 46 percent from the field and 41.7 percent (10-for-24) from the three-point line.
 
TLU shot 41.5 percent overall and 26.3 percent from the three-point line. The Bulldogs were 5-for-19 from the arc.

Morgan Rodriguez led TLU with 20 points. She also collected eight rebounds and two assists. Olivia Balderas was the only other Bulldog in double figures. She scored 11.
 
Abby Hroch chipped in eight points and four rebounds.
 
TLU's next contest is an exhibition game Tuesday at University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley. Tip-off is 7 p.m. in Edinburg, Texas.
 
The Bulldogs' next official regular-season game is the home-opener, when TLU hosts a basketball doubleheader with Howard Payne. The TLU Women tip-off at 8 p.m., and the men play Howard Payne at 6 p.m. Both games will be played in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium (Jim Shuler Court).
