TLU Women's Basketball collects second straight SCAC Sportsmanship award

SEGUIN, Texas – Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball claimed its second consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Winter Sportsmanship Team award, the conference office announced Friday.

TLU, the 2019 SCAC Champion and NCAA Division III tournament qualifier, was one of four teams recognized by the SCAC as a 2018-19 Winter Sportsmanship Team.

The Bulldogs are coached by Mel Dixon, who just finished his seventh season as the team's head coach.

TLU collected the team sportsmanship award with Johnson & Wales University and Colorado College earning second and third place, respectively, in the voting.

The SCAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee instituted the sportsmanship award prior to the 2016-17 academic year in an effort to honor the team that best portrays good sportsmanship and fair play from the players and coaches during the season.

The winter awards are presented in men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving.

In swimming and diving, Southwestern University swept the team sportsmanship honors on both the men's and women's side. The Pirate men were the top choice with Centenary College finishing second and Colorado College third.

For women's swimming, Southwestern earned top honors followed closely by Colorado College in second place. Austin College was third in the balloting.

In men's basketball, Colorado College took top sportsmanship honors, followed by Centenary in second and Austin College in third.
