Top-Seeded Bulldogs Fly Past McMurry in SCAC Quarterfinal
AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 4-ranked Texas Lutheran took care of No. 5 seed McMurry in Saturday's SCAC Tournament quarterfinal, winning 4-2.
Following a pair of early runs in the first and second innings on Friday, Texas Lutheran responded with four unanswered runs starting with an RBI double from Harleigh Russell (Fort Worth/Boswell) in the second inning. Taylor Vannett (Kingwood/Kingwood) gave the Bulldogs the lead with a two-RBI single to cap the scoring in the second.
The game was suspended Friday afternoon in the bottom of the third due to weather and resumed Saturday morning.
Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) delivered a solo home run almost immediately as the game resumed on Saturday, her 11th of the season, to bring the final score to 4-2, TLU.
Gonzalez paced TLU in the box with a 2-for-3 outing with a double, a home run, and an RBI. Vannett went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Ainsley Davis (Rockwall/Jesuit (OR)) finished the game for the Bulldogs, entering in the second inning to toss 5.2 innings of shutout in relief. Davis allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out two.
TLU meets two-seed St. Thomas in the SCAC Softball Championship Tournament semifinal Saturday night at Concordia at 6:30 PM CT. The game will be broadcast on FloSports. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
