No. 15 Bulldogs Open Austin College Series with 4-1 Win

SEGUIN, Texas -- A two-run sixth inning gave the Bulldogs much needed insurance as the No. 15 Texas Lutheran softball team opened their SCAC series with Austin College with a 4-1 win over the 'Roos Thursday evening.

With the win,TLU improved to 15-2 and 6-1 in SCAC play while Austin College fell to 13-11 and 2-5 against conference opponents.

All-American Ashlyn Strother (Seabrook/Clear Falls) got the nod in the circle as she tossed her eighth complete game of the season against the 'Roos. She improved to 11-0 allowing six hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. A sixth inning home run would be the only run she'd allow on the evening.

Caelee Clark's (Montgomery/Lake Creek) leadoff single got the Bulldogs going in the bottom of the first, stealing second to get in scoring position before an RBI groundout from Tavery Ortiz (Texas City/Texas City) would score her to give TLU an early 1-0 lead.

Clark would steal home in the third to score for the second time and double the Bulldogs lead to 2-0.

A sixth inning Austin College homer would cut the Bulldogs lead in half, 2-1.

The Bulldogs scratched across two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth as Mia Landry (Cypress/Bridgeland) would score on an Austin College error and an RBI single from Linzee Leal (Corpus Christi/Mary Carroll) would score Harleigh Russell (Fort Worth/Boswell).

Freshman Mia Landry would lead the Bulldogs offensively, going 2-for-3 with a run scored while Caelee Clark would go 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs scored. Harleigh Russell would record a bunt single and score a run while stealing two bases after coming in as a pinch runner in the fourth.

TLU continues SCAC play on Friday, wrapping the series with the 'Roos with a doubleheader. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 12 and 2 PM.The games will be streamed on TLU's YouTube Channel, TLU+. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
