Cross Country squads compete at NCAA D3 South/Southeast Regional

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Texas Lutheran Men and Women's Cross Country teams closed their seasons with respective 24th and 16th-place finishes at the 2017 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships in Newport News, Va. 

At the Lee Hall Mansion cross country course, the TLU Women scored 458 points to earn their highest team finish since 2012 when the Bulldogs women placed 13th.

The Bulldog Men scored 595 points to take home a 24th-place finish. 

Senior Blake Westbrook (Victoria/Victoria West) led the Bulldogs in his final cross country race with a school record 8K time of 26 minutes and 32 seconds. Westbrook's 81st-place finish is the highest indivial regional finish in program history.

Caleb Calderon (Austin/Akins/St. Andrew's) followed closely in 96th place with a personal best of 26:40.

Seniors Rudolph Calderon (Pleasanton/Pleasanton) and Donald Manuszewski (Cibolo/Steele), also competing in their final cross country race, were next for the Bulldogs in 123rd and 143rd place, respectively with respective times of 27:05 and 27:24.

Racing in his first regional meet, freshman Hector Hornedo (San Antonio/Antonian) rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs with a 188th-place finish. 

In the women's race, Ashley Rynard (Temple/Temple) led the Bulldogs with a 61st-place finish and a 6K time of 23:22.5.

Senior Breauna Gabriel (New Braunfels/ Canyon) concluded her career for the Bulldogs with a personal-best time of 23:44 and a 78th-place finish.

Kylee Garcia (Wichita Falls/Rider), Felicia Ortiz (Skidmore/Skidmore-Tynan) and Ciara Rodriguez (Uvalde/Uvalde) rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs with respective 83rd, 127th, and 146th place finishes and respective times of 23:58, 24:51, and 25:15.
