TLU Shoots Up National Leaderboard at UTA Invitational

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's track and field team competed in the UTA Invitational Friday at UT Arlington Maverick Stadium at UT-Arlington amidst a field of predominantly NCAA Division-I teams.

All-American Wyatt Wilson (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) finished 11th out of a 45-man field in the 100m dash with a time of 10.69 seconds. The 10.69 second time moved Wilson to second in all of NCAA Division-III in the event. Wilson also finished seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 21.55 seconds - also ranking second nationally in NCAA Division-III.

Fellow All-American Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton), who opened the outdoor track and field season by winning the 400m dash at the 2024 Trinity Invitational, finished fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 48.88 seconds.

The Texas Lutheran 4x100m relay team comprised of Powell-Chimene, Rickey Franks (Rockport/Rocport-Fulton), Justin Freeney (Montgomery/Lake Creek), and All-American Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen) finished fourth with a time of 41.74 seconds.

The 4x400m relay team comprised of Powell-Chimene, Franks, Freeney, and Mateo Alvear (San Marcos/San Marcos) finished second with a time of 3:26.58 moving TLU into sixth place nationally.

Garrett Haass (La Vernia/La Vernia) moved up the national leaderboard with his ninth place finish in the 110m hurdles, finishing with a time of 15.30 seconds that moved him into fifth place nationally in NCAA Division-III.

Dalon Harris (Garland/Lakeview Centennial) set a new national mark for NCAA Division-III in the shot put with a mark of 16.00m (52' 6"), finishing second only to a UT-Arlington thrower on Friday.

Weston Geiger (Shiner/St. Paul) and Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan) finished fourth and fifth in the javelin throw with marks of 50.47m (165' 7") and 49.78m (163' 4") respectively. The marks moved both Geiger and Acero into the top 15 nationally in NCAA Division-III.

Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph) finished fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m (6' 2.75") matching his mark from the 2024 Trinity Invitational that ranks him third in NCAA Division-III.

Freshman Wesley Holub (Wallis/Brazos) finished fifth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:41.54.

Darnell Horton (Detroit, MI/East English Village Prep) finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.31m (20' 8.5").

Coach McCown's Comments: "We battled weather and tough competition and handled both very well. We had multiple events with top 5 finishes against D1 and D2 schools. So proud of the focus of this team.  We look forward to competing at home in 2 weeks. Go Dogs!"
