Acero Moves Up National Leaderboard; Holub Breaks Mile Record at LSU Twilight

BATON ROUGE, LA -- The Texas Lutheran men's track and field team competed in the LSU Twilight Friday at Carl Maddox Field House at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. TLU would be the lone Division-III team in the meet.

Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan) finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.76m (15'7.25"). The mark moves Acero to number 22 in all of Division-III in the indoor pole vault with three weeks until the NCAA Division-III Indoor National Championships.

After breaking the 3000m run record two weeks ago, freshman Wesley Holub (Wallis/Brazos) broke the program record for the one mile run on Friday, finishing sixth with a time of 4:26.75. The one mile run record was previously held by Holub's cross country teammate Carlos Cura at 4:27.62 set just last season in 2023.

Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton) finished third in the 400m dash with a time of 50.31 seconds.

The Texas Lutheran 4x400m relay team comprised of Powell-Chimene, Rickey Franks (Rockport/Rockport-Fulton), Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen), and Kaleb Brachett (Beaumont/West Brook) finished third with a time of 3:30.85.

Dalon Harris (Garland/Lakeview Centennial) finished third in the indoor shot put with a mark of 15.19m (49'10").

Coach McCown's Comments: "Great competition can carry you to great performances if you let them. As a team we did just that. We had 10 personal bests and 2 school records today. Congratulations to Wes Holub on his 2nd school record of the indoor season. He ran his race tactically well and it paid off for him. Congratulations to Taylor Norell on improving her time and resetting the school record again. Also, Ezra improved his National ranking to number 22 and finished second overall. We are definitely improving every week and this was a great meet to help better prepare us for even better performances this outdoor season. Go Dogs!"
