Bulldog Men's T&F tops regional ranking; TLU Women up to 6th


SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Men's Track & Field Team is ranked No. 1 in the South/Southeast Region, and the TLU Women are sixth in the regional ranking, according to a tabulation of results from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Both squads come off limited but strong performances at the Stephen F. Austin Carl Kight Invitational this past weekend in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Garrett Garza (Round Rock/Stony Point), with a national ranking of third in the shot put, took second at the Carl Kight Invitational with a toss of 16.85 meters (55 feet, 3-1/2 inches).

Kylee Garcia (Wichita Falls/Rider) set a new personal record in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 19 minutes, 22.64 seconds. Ashley Rynard (Temple/Temple) took sixth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:47.01.

Caimen McDonough (Canyon Lake/Canyon Lake) was fourth in the men's triple jump with a leap of 13.24 meters (43-5 1/4), and Jacob Guercia (Forney/Forney) was fifth in the hammer with a heave of 46.85 meters (153-8 1/2).

The Bulldog Men are ranked No. 1 in the nation in the USTFCCCA team ranking for the 100 meters. The Bulldogs have the fastest average time from their top four competitors in the 100. The Bulldogs have an average time of 10.86 seconds.

The TLU Men also rank high in the national event team rankings for the triple jump (third), the 200 (4th), 110 hurdles (5th), and the high jump (5th).

The Bulldogs are ranked 37th overall nationally by the USTFCCCA.

The TLU Women are 30th nationally in the USTFCCCA ranking, and the Bulldogs have top national event rankings of ninth in the javelin and 12th in the discus.

The TLU Track & Field teams compete at the University of the Incarnate Word this Friday and Saturday at the Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium in San Antonio.
