Darren Jones nabs another SCAC Track Athlete of the Week award


SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran sprinter Darren Jones, a junior from Waller (Waller), has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for meets held through Sunday, March 31.

Jones continued his outstanding outdoor season last week jumping up to second nationally with his performance in the 100-meter dash at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational.

Jones set a new school record in the event with a time of 10.57 seconds. Jones also turned in the seventh fastest time in DIII in that same meet in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.68.

Jones was also the Week 1 SCAC Track Athlete of the Week.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Max Blackburn of Colorado College won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:50.69 which now ranks first in the SCAC. Senior Kevin McGuirk of Dallas finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and third in the 400-meter hurdles, both in PR fashion with times of 17.24 and 57.61, respectively. Junior Bryce Moore of Johnson & Wales led the Wildcats at the Tom Benich Invite after a seventh-place finish in the 5,000-meters with a program record time of 16:03.86. Senior Blair Walker of Trinity won the 200-meter dash at the Texas Quad Invite with a personal best time of 21.91. Walker also won his heat in the 400-meters at the Texas Bobcat with a time of 49.49.
