New records, new PRs for Bulldogs at Texas A&M Aggie Twilight

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas Lutheran indoor track & field student-athletes set seven new school marks at the Texas A&M Aggie Twilight, Saturday in College Station.

Garrett Garza (Round Rock/Stony Point) broke his own school mark in the shot put and moved up to third nationally in the NCAA Division III indoor track & field rankings.

Garza posted a mark of 56 feet, 2 inches (17.12 meters) and finished third at the meet.

Darren Jones (Waller/Waller) broke the school indoor record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.87 seconds. Jones improved to 19th nationally in DIII.

Jones finished fifth out of 36 competitors in the 200.

Jones also ran in the 60 and made the final, finishing seventh overall with a time of 7.00. He ran a 6.92 in the preliminaries.

Jones still sits in a good spot - sixth nationally - for qualification in the NCAA DIII 60-meter dash after his time of 6.88 at the UCO Open on Jan. 26.

The Bulldogs also received new school marks from: Ciara Rodriguez (Uvalde/Uvalde) in the women's 3,000 (11:45.54), Caleb Calderon (Austin/Akins) in the men's 3,000 (9:09.43), Dillan Wendel (Wharton/Boling) in the 800 (1:57.98), Chad Wieland(Seguin/Navarro) in the pole vault (14-4 3/4), and Paris Foster (Magnolia/Magnolia) in the 60 hurdles (8.26).

Foster ran an 8.46 in the preliminaries before clocking an 8.26 in the final to post a second-place finish.

Foster's record time pushed him to 21st nationally in the 60 hurdles.

Although it was not a new school record, Dejah Carr (Houston/Channelview) posted a new personal record in the shot put with a toss of 38-11 (11.86 meters). Carr took home eighth in the Aggie Twilight. 

With a little less than three weeks before the national indoor meet in Boston, the Bulldogs have three athletes with top-10 national rankings and in great positions for national championship berths. In addition to Jones's sixth-place ranking in the 60 and Garza's third-ranked position in the shot put, 800-meter specialist Ashley Rynard (Temple/Temple) sits in fifth nationally.
