Texas Lutheran's Cameron Townes named SCAC Offensive Player of the Week

SEGUIN, Texas -- Cameron Townes, a senior midfielder/defender from Cypress (Cypress Ranch), has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Monday, Sept. 2.

Townes scored all three of TLU’s goals over the weekend as the Bulldogs went 1-1, with a road win over Concordia Texas and home loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor in double overtime.

Townes had both goals in the win over Concordia, and his goal against UMHB tied the match with just over two minutes to play in regulation. All three of his shots on goal turned into goals. He took five total shots and scored three times.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior midfielder Jackson Silverstein of Colorado College led the Tigers with two goals and an assist for five total points in a pair of win last weekend against Albion and Luther. Silverstein scored a goal in each game and added the assist in the win over the Britons. Junior midfielder Chase Reynolds of Dallas put in a pair of goals in the Crusaders’ season-opening victory over Howard Payne last Friday. Senior defender Josh Davis of Trinity led the Tigers to a 1-0-1 record in a pair of overtime games to start the 2019 season this weekend. After nearly three minutes of overtime on opening night against the University of Texas-Dallas, Davis got in behind the defense and was able to assist on the game-winning goal to lift Trinity to a victory. He finished the weekend with five total shots and four shots on goal in the two games.
