Texas Lutheran Men's Soccer places five on SCAC All-Tournament Team

SEGUIN, Texas -- After a vote of the coaches in the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship, SCAC champion Texas Lutheran placed five players onto the SCAC All-Tournament Team.
 
Bulldogs named to the All-Tournament Team were: sophomore forward Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley), sophomore forward Nicolas Medina (Houston/St. Pius X), senior midfielder Cameron Townes (Cypress/Cypress Ranch), senior defender Lalo Lopez-Rivera (Round Rock/Stony Point), and freshman goalkeeper Caleb Weed (San Antonio/Warren).
 
Green was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the Tournament, and Lopez-Rivera was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the Tournament.
 
On Nov. 9-10, the Bulldogs won their first SCAC Men's Soccer Championship with a 2-0 victory over Trinity (Texas) in the conference tournament semifinal and a 3-1 win over Colorado College in the conference tournament final.
 
Green and Medina each scored two goals in the SCAC tournament. The sophomore forwards each had a goal in the semifinal win over Trinity, and they each scored in the championship final victory against Colorado College.
 
Townes scored the first goal in the championship match against Colorado College.
 
Lopez-Rivera and Weed led a TLU defensive effort that allowed only one goal in two tournament matches. That one goal came on a penalty kick in the championship match.
 
Weed made three saves in the semifinal against Trinity and had four saves in the championship against Colorado College.
 
TLU played in its second-ever NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship this past Saturday in San Antonio. At Trinity University, TLU fell to No. 13 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) 2-0. CMS would go on to defeat Trinity 2-0 in the second round match on Sunday, also at Trinity.
 
The Bulldogs closed out 2019 with a school-record 15 victories. The Bulldogs, led by 14th-year head coach Eddie Salazar, went 15-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
 
TLU's appearance in the NCAA tournament on Saturday was the final collegiate contest for: Lalo Lopez-RiveraCameron TownesChase SilkGuillermo GuerraCole WelkerJacob Trujillo, and Jose Torres-Luna Jr.
