TLU's tournament run ends in SCAC semi with 2-1 overtime loss to No. 5 Trinity University

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran's run in the 2018 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament came to a close Saturday with a 2-1 overtime semifinal loss to No. 5 Trinity University.

Top-seeded Trinity struck first with a goal in the fourth minute with Quentin Van Der Lee assisting on a Jacob Hallenberger goal that gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

That lead was short-lived though, as Edgar Molina (Houston/Klein) equalized in the 16th minute for the Bulldogs. Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley) and Braulio Adam (San Antonio/Lee) registered the assist.

Following the first 45 minutes of action, Trinity's defense stiffened and held TLU to just two shots the rest of the game.

Hallenberger had a shot on goal saved in the 68th minute, then Fraser Burns had an on-target attempt stopped with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation. The only shot of the half for the Bulldogs came early in the period by Molina, but missed wide left.

In overtime, TLU's Green took the first attempt after just 18 seconds of action, but the shot was blocked.

Burns had another shot on goal saved with just under three minutes remaining, then Andrea Codispoti found Burns for the game-winner less than a minute later, and the Tigers pulled off the win with less than two minutes left in the overtime period.

TLU received seven saves from senior goalkeeper Brendan Soto (Georgetown/East View), who finished the tournament with 12 total saves.

Blake Lieberman made one save for the Tigers.

Trinity out-shot TLU 15-5 with a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.

The Tigers improved to 15-1-2 overall. They will play Trinity for the SCAC title on Sunday.

The match was the final TLU soccer contest for three Bulldog seniors: Soto, Heriberto Perales (Del Rio/Del Rio), and Nathan Sevigny (San Antonio/Steele).
