Bulldogs move into SCAC semifinal after 5-1 victory v Dallas

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Soccer erupted for five goals - the most scored by the Bulldogs in a conference tournament - to run past University of Dallas 5-1 Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs advance to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship semifinal against top seed Trinity on Saturday.

Against Dallas at Southwestern University's Varsity Soccer Field, the Bulldogs found the back of the net four times in 10 minutes after trailing Dallas 1-0.

TLU took a 4-1 lead with 17 minutes remaining in the first half after four unanswered goals.

SCAC Player and Newcomer of the Year Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley) and junior defender Cameron Townes (Cypress/Cypress Ranch) each recorded a pair of goals for the Bulldogs.

Freshman midfielder Nicolas Medina (Houston/St. Pius X) collected a goal, and sophomore forward Edgar Molina (Houston/Klein) and senior defender Nathan Sevigny (San Antonio/Steele) each registered an assist.

Dallas' Tomas DePetris opened the match's scoring in the third minute of play. The goal was assisted by Eric Haigh.

Green put the Bulldogs on the board in the 18th minute, and Medina added a goal at the 22:42 mark.

Green netted his second goal, at the 25:08 mark. Townes followed with a goal in the 28th minute.

Green added to his TLU NCAA DIII-era goals record with the two goals Friday. Green now has 18 goals in 2018. He is four goals behind the school's single-season record of 22, set by Ariel Larre in 1994.

Green is one goal from tying Roger Gomez for third on the single-season goals list. Gomez, TLU's career leader in goals scored (62), had 19 goals in 1989 and 20 goals in 1988 - second and third on the TLU goals chart.

Townes scored the only goal of the second half. He found the back of the net in the 65th minute.

The Bulldogs improved to 11-7 overall. Dallas' season ends with an overall record of 8-8.

TLU will face No. 1 seed Trinity University at 11 a.m. Saturday at SU's Varsity Field. Live video and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com
