Uecker ends collegiate career after two rounds of NCAA tournament

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. -- Texas Lutheran senior Colin Uecker (Kerrville/Tivy) concluded his brilliant collegiate golf career with a two-round score of 155 that left him outside the two-round cut line at the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships.

Uecker (pronounced "EE-ker") carded an 80 on Wednesday after posting a 75 on Tuesday.

Uecker started on the back nine of the Champion Trace course at Keene Trace Golf Club. He opened with a double bogey on No. 10 but bounced back with eight consecutive pars.

Uecker bogeyed No. 1 to go to 3-over on the day, but he got the stroke back with a birdie at No. 2, the par-5 that measures 573 yards.

After pars at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5, Uecker recorded a triple-bogey on the par-5 6th and ended the round with a bogey at No. 8 and a double bogey at No. 9.

After 36 holes of competition, 18 each on Tuesday and Wednesday, the field was cut to the top 18 teams and the top six individuals not on one of those teams. 

Uecker's two-round total put him into a tie for 78th.

A total of 216 participants are competing at the 2019 championships.

Uecker was one of six individuals (not already qualifying with a team) that received an invitation to the national championship tournament.

Uecker, a TLU Male Student-Athlete of the Year nominee, won five tournaments in 2019, including the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. He won eight individual titles in his four years as a Bulldog.
