Colin Uecker wins SCAC individual title; Bulldogs come home tied for second

BLANCO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran senior Colin Uecker (Kerrville/Tivy) won the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference individual championship and claimed his eighth career title and the fifth of his 2019 season.

At Vaaler Creek Golf Club, Uecker's performance pushed TLU to a second-place tie in the team race. The Bulldogs finished four shots behind the University of Dallas and tied with Southwestern for second.

TLU and Southwestern posted 890 team scores. Dallas took the team crown, its first-ever title in any sport in the SCAC, with a score of 886.

The Bulldogs entered the final round seven shots behind Dallas and rallied to tie the Crusaders on the second nine. But Dallas closed strong with a combined 4-under over the final two holes.

Uecker (pronounced "EE-ker") won medalist honors with a 5-under 211. He carded a 1-under 71 and a 2-under 70 on Monday. He closed with a 2-under 70 on Tuesday.

Uecker joins former Bulldog Adam Peterson as an individual men's champion in the SCAC.

Uecker's season may not be finished. He is a strong candidate for an individual invitation to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship in Nicholasville, Ky. The championship will be played May 14-17 at Keene Trace Golf Club.

Nathan Haley (Richmond/Foster) joined Uecker on the All-SCAC Team. Haley made the Second Team with a tie for 10th. Haley posted rounds of 73, 76 and 76.

Chase Maus (Manor/Manor) tallied a 12th-place finish with rounds of 76, 73 and 76, and Matthew McArthur (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) tied for 16 with scores of 81, 77 and 74.

Connor Tran (Canyon Lake/home school) made his score count to TLU's 293 on Tuesday with a final-round 74. Tran finished 26th overall.
