Bulldogs' Uecker wins adidas Intercollegiate; TLU finishes fifth overall

DATAW ISLAND, S.C. -- Texas Lutheran senior Colin Uecker won the adidas Intercollegiate individual title and led the Bulldogs to a fifth-place team finish Tuesday at Dataw Island Club's Cotton Dike Course.

Uecker (Kerrville/Tivy) won a three-man playoff with Casey Leebrick of York (Pa.) and Michael Barber of Millikin (Ill.). Uecker birdied the first playoff hole to capture medalist honors.

Uecker (pronounced "EE-ker") started Tuesday's final round by trailing Leebrick by two shots. Uecker closed with an even-par 72, and Leebrick carded a two-over 74. Barber got into the playoff with a 1-under 71.

All three golfers finished regulation with an even-par score of 216. Uecker posted rounds of 73-71-72. Leebrick went 68-74-74, and Barber scored 73-72-71.

The Bulldogs as a team stayed in fifth place with Tuesday's score of 306. In addition to Uecker's 72 in the final round, the Bulldogs counted Nathan Haley's 77, Chase Maus's 78, and Matthew McArthur's 79.

Haley (Richmond/Foster) tied for 24th overall, and Maus (Manor/Manor) finished 40th overall. Haley and Maus each recorded three rounds in the 70s.

Oglethorpe won the team title with a three-round total of 883 (+19). TLU closed the tournament at 908 (+44). Fifteen teams competed in the tournament.

TLU's next tournament is the Texas Cup, hosted by the University of Texas at Dallas, scheduled for March 23-24 in Plano, Texas.
