TLU Upset Attempt Falls Short in Overtime at Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran men's basketball led or tied for nearly ten minutes in the second half against their rivals, the 10th ranked Trinity Tigers, with an and-one, three-point play from LaDarius King (Austin/St. Stephen's Episcopal) forcing overtime. The rivals traded leads over the course of the overtime period with the Bulldogs having an opportunity to force a second overtime in the final seconds, but the Bulldogs final three-point attempt would fall short, escaping with a 76-73 win.

Texas Lutheran (3-15, 2-7 SCAC) was led by junior Easton Allen (New Braunfels/Marion) who finished with a career-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs) joined Allen in double figures, scoring 16 points and grabbing a season-high 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Semaj Edwards (Lanham, MD/Oak Hill Academy) continued his string of impressive performances in SCAC play for the Bulldogs, recording 14 points and a career-high six assists.

The Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 44-34 over the course of the second half and overtime. The Tigers would outscore the Bulldogs 42-22 in the paint and the Tiger bench would out produce the Bulldog bench 33-8. The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 40% (28-of-70) and made 12-of-31 three-pointers (38.7%). 

Texas Lutheran concludes its five-game game conference road trip on Tuesday, Jan. 23, with their first matchup with the Southwestern Pirates of the 2023-24 season. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM in Georgetown. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
