Texas Lutheran Battles Past Centenary on Senior Day

SEGUIN, TX -- Isaac Orozco (Helotes/O'Connor) finished in double figures for the fifth-time in his last six games and the Bulldogs were 11-of-15 at the foul line in the second half to lead Texas Lutheran to a 58-47 victory over Centenary Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium.

Texas Lutheran wins its fourth game over the last five heading into the SCAC Tournament next week and improves to 10-14 overall and 8-8 in the SCAC. Centenary falls to 12-12 and 7-9 in the SCAC as the Bulldogs and Gents broke the tiebreaker for the fourth seed in next week's tournament with Saturday's contest.

The Bulldogs defense was smothering, holding the Gents to their second-lowest point total of the season (47), third-lowest three-point percentage (11.8%), and a season low three assists. Texas Lutheran forced 16 turnovers, while committing just 11, and outscoring the Gents 14-10 in points off turnovers.

In a game that featured 12 lead changes, Texas Lutheran took a 49-47 lead with 4:17 remaining following two free throws from Isaac Orozco and never surrendered the lead the rest of the game.

Orozco's free throws, as well as another pair of free throws two possessions later, were part of a 13-0 closing run from the Bulldogs.

Orozco finished with a team-high 15 points and five steals. Senior Jamir Mason (Pearland/St. Thomas Episcopal) joined Orozco in double figures with 13 points and six rebounds. Senior Cameron Fontenot (Katy/Second Baptist School) had a team-high nine rebounds in addition to nine points.

Despite leading for a majority of the first half, the Bulldogs would trail 30-25 at halftime. The Bulldogs would hold the Gents to 17 points in the second half and close the game on a 13-0 run to secure the victory.

After the game, Texas Lutheran recognized its three seniors (Mason, Fontenot, and Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/Americas) in postgame Senior Day festivities - recognizing their accomplishments and thanking them for their contributions to the program. Thank you to all three seniors for everything over the course of the last four years.
