SEGUIN, TX -- Sophomore Gerrit Twitero (McQueeney/Seguin) tallied a team-high 15 points to lead Texas Lutheran (4-5, 2-0 SCAC) to a 71-58 win over Alma College (1-7,0-0 MIAA) Monday evening at Memorial Gymnasium. Defense proved to be the key to victory, as the Bulldogs forced 15 turnovers and posted a 17-4 advantage in points off turnovers in a game that saw 32 lead changes.
Senior Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/Americas) registered nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Senior Jamir Mason (Pearland/St. Thomas Episcopal) added nine points and four rebounds in 29 minutes.
After a Gerrit Twitero mid-range jumper gave Texas Lutheran a 6-2 advantage at the 17:29 mark, the Scots responded with a 16-7 run over the next eight minutes to grab an 18-13 lead - their largest lead of the game. With the Scots leading by five, the Bulldogs closed the half on a 15-11 run to shrink their deficit to 29-28 entering the break with the teams trading short leads 11 times in the opening half.
The second half began by being reminiscent of the first half as the two teams went back and forth trading one-point leads to open the half. After a layup from Riley Fornerette (Surprise, AZ/Dysart) made the game 41-all, a three from Mason Green (San Marcos/San Marcos) and back-to-back threes from DJ Ardoin (Houston/Pearland) gave the Bulldogs a 50-43 lead. The Bulldogs would maintain a lead between five to seven points for the majority of the second half until the Scots entered the double-bonus in the closing moments - allowing the Bulldogs to extend their lead to their largest of the afternoon as they put the finishing touches on their third consecutive victory.
Texas Lutheran returns to action tomorrow, December 21, as they will take part in the Leslie Robinson Christmas Classic on the campus of Trinity University in San Antonio.
