TLU moves into SCAC semifinal for sixth consecutive year with win over Southwestern

KERRVILLE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs advanced to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament semifinal round for the sixth consecutive year with an 81-63 win Friday afternoon against Southwestern University.
 
TLU, winner of four of the last five SCAC Championships, will face No. 2 seed Austin College at 2 p.m. Saturday in the second men's tournament semifinal game. Top seed Centenary and tournament host Schreiner play at noon in the first semifinal.
 
TLU, the No. 3 seed, improved to 15-11 overall. Southwestern's season ended at 12-14 overall.
 
The Bulldogs defeated Southwestern for the third time this season.
 
In Friday's matchup, TLU hit its second-most three-pointers of the 2019-20 season and shot its best three-point percentage. The Bulldogs made 12 three-pointers and shot 46.2 percent (12-for-26).

TLU made nine three-pointers in the first half alone.
 
The Bulldogs led by as many as 21 in the second half. Southwestern cut the lead to 12 with two minutes remaining, but the Pirates would get no closer.
 
Caleb Lister hit four three-pointers and finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. He was 5-for-9 from the field.
 
Jamir Mason added 17 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Mason also recorded three steals and three blocks.
 
Sebastian Andrade scored 10, and Jorden Kite and Royce Torres contributes nine and eight points, respectively.
 
TLU shot 52.1 percent from the floor and held the Pirates to 36.2 percent.
 
The Bulldogs out-scored the Pirates 36-15 from the three-point line.
