Austin College completes regular-season series sweep of TLU with 94-79 win

SHERMAN, Texas -- Austin College completed the regular-season series sweep of Texas Lutheran with a 94-79 home win Saturday over the Bulldogs.
 
In AC's Hughey Gymnasium, the Kangaroos shot a blistering 65.5 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from the three-point line in improving to 14-9 overall and to 11-5 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
 
Austin College is tied with Centenary (La.) in the race for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SCAC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament. Two games remain on the SCAC schedule for both AC and Centenary.
 
TLU, at 12-11 overall and 9-7 in the SCAC, has lost four in a row. The Bulldogs hold a one-game lead over Dallas and Trinity for the No. 3 seed. The Bulldogs are two games behind Austin College and Centenary. TLU does not have the tiebreaker with Austin College if the two teams were to be tied at the end of the regular season.
 
In Saturday's loss to AC, Jamir Mason and Jorden Kite each scored 19 points for the Bulldogs. Mason added four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
 
Caleb Lister chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds. Cameron Fontenot registered 13 points off the TLU bench. Fontenot was 5-for-8 from the floor.
 
Michael Holland led AC with 26 points. Deven Roland scored 17 and pulled down seven rebounds.
 
TLU returns to Memorial Gymnasium (Jim Shuler Court) for next weekend's match-ups with Johnson & Wales (Denver) and Colorado College. TLU hosts JWU-Denver at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and hosts Colorado College at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
