Texas Lutheran uses late rally to get past Hardin-Simmons 65-62 in Memorial Gymnasium

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran erased a late nine-point deficit and won its second straight home game with a 65-62 victory Saturday afternoon over Hardin-Simmons.
 
In TLU's Memorial Gymnasium (Jim Shuler Court), Jorden Kite (San Antonio/Clark/Incarnate Word) scored 19 points and made four free throws in the closing seconds as the Bulldogs improved to 3-2 overall.
 
HSU dropped to 3-2 with the non-conference loss. TLU and HSU split the regular-season series with each team winning at home.

The Cowboys held a nine-point lead (58-49) with 5:35 to play in the game. The HSU lead was still seven with 3:23 remaining.
 
TLU began its comeback with a Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/Americas) jumper with 3:19 on the clock.
 
Kite drained a jump shot with 2:37 to play and brought TLU within five. Caleb Lister (Baytown/Baytown Christian) took a feed from Kite and converted a layup to cut the HSU lead to three at the two-minute mark.
 
Two free throws from Andrade brought TLU within a point, 59-60 with 1:14 remaining.
 
Two more free throws, this time from Lister, gave the Bulldogs the lead, at 61-60 with 30 seconds to play.
 
Before Lister gave the Bulldogs' the lead, TLU last led at the 1:42 mark of the first half.
 
TLU's defense continued to make stops, and Kite grabbed another Bulldog rebound with 11 seconds on the clock. He went to the line and made two free throws, giving TLU a 63-60 edge.
 
The Bulldogs came out of a timeout and fouled HSU instead of allowing the Cowboys to take a three-pointer. In the penalty, but not the double-bonus, HSU missed the first free throw.
 
TLU grabbed the rebound, and Kite went back to the line to make two more free throws and push the TLU lead to five.
 
Chris Barrett scored on a layup at the buzzer for HSU.
 
Prior to the Barrett layup, HSU went 5:34 without a made field goal.
 
TLU out-scored HSU 16-4 in the last 5:34 of regulation. HSU led for 31 minutes and 23 seconds of the game. TLU led for only 5:43.
 
Andrade added 16 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs. Lister collected 14 points and seven rebounds.
 
Jamir Mason grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds and scored six.
 
TLU shot 39.6 percent from the field for the game. From the three-point line, the Bulldogs were 8-of-20.
 
HSU finished with a shooting percentage of 34.8. HSU went 4-for-14 form the arc.
 
Steven Quinn led the Cowboys with 24 points. Chris Barrett had eight points and nine rebounds.
 
The Bulldogs return to action on Dec.4 with a 6 p.m. home game against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
