Bulldogs Fall to Rival Trinity 51-14

SEGUIN, TX -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs (1-2, 1-1) suffered their second loss of the season, falling to Trinity University (2-0, 0-0) by a score of 51-14. A slow start to the game found the Bulldogs trailing 14-0 after the first quarter. From there, the Bulldogs were unable to mount enough offense to cut into the Tigers' lead.

The Trinity Tigers dictated this game throughout as they methodically drove down the field to gather 517 yards of total offense and keep possession for 36 minutes and 19 seconds of the game. The Bulldogs defense couldn't get the necessary stops early as the Tigers moved the ball through the air and on the ground to score 31 unanswered points to start the game and create an insurmountable lead. The Bulldogs showed signs of life in the third quarter scoring on their opening drive but the Tigers' immediately responded with another touchdown to begin their 20 point half to close out the Bulldogs.

DaKory Willis (Flatonia/Flatonia) and Seth Cosme (Angleton/Angleton) led the Bulldogs in rushing with both rushing for 20 yards a piece. Freshman quarterback Te'Ray Lewis (Houston/Westbury Christian) scored the lone rushing touchdown of the game - his first collegiate touchdown - with two minutes remaining in the game. Senior wide receiver Keon Torello (St. Louis, MO/Austin Crockett (TX)) led the way receiving with two receptions for 81 yards. Sophomore Daniel Mendoza (Houston/Westside) scored the lone receiving touchdown in the third quarter - his only catch on the day - for his second touchdown of the season.

Quarterback Seth Cosme finished 8 of 15 for 151 yards passing with one touchdown and one interception.

Junior linebacker David Augustin (Missouri City/Willowridge) led the Bulldogs defensively with 9 tackles - 3 solo. Freshman Nelson Coleman (San Marcos/San Marcos) had a career high 7 tackles - all solo.

Next up, the Bulldogs return to conference play as they hit the road to face the Lobos of Sul Ross State on Saturday, September 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM and all streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com
