Sixteen Bulldogs named to 2019 ASC Football Academic All-Conference Team

RICHARDSON, Texas – Sixteen Texas Lutheran Football student-athletes were named Wednesday to the American Southwest Conference's 2019 Fall Academic All-Conference list.

The ASC recognized a total of 490 student-athletes from 12 member institutions and two affiliate institutions.

The ASC 2019 Fall Academic All-Conference List includes the sports of men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball.

TLU competes in the American Southwest Conference only in football. The remainder of TLU's athletics programs compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

To be eligible for ASC Academic All-Conference honors, student-athletes must be classified academically as a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student during the competition season and have been in attendance and completed at least one academic year (two consecutive semesters) at their institution.

Student-athletes also must also have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as certified at the conclusion of the academic semester in which the ASC sport championship is held.

TLU Football seniors Manny Longoria (Geronimo/Navarro) and Travis York (Seguin/Seguin) picked up academic all-conference honors for a fourth consecutive season.

Longoria and York played one year of football in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, a league that awards academic all-conference honors to freshmen. The ASC rules for academic all-conference limit these awards to sophomores, junior, seniors, and graduate students.

This season, Longoria and York combined academic all-conference honors with First Team All-ASC playing awards.

Longoria was honored this year as an Academic All-American and a playing All-American (AFCA).

Longoria was joined on the Academic All-District First Team by fellow ASC Academic All-Conference selection Justice Porter (Cypress/Cypress Ridge).

Andrew Lotz (New Orleans, La./The Colony (Texas)) claimed his third academic all-conference honor, and Cameron Bennett (The Colony/The Colony), and Hunter Jaehne (Giddings/Giddings) each grabbed a second academic all-conference honor.
