Baseball Drops Extra Inning Thriller at UT-Dallas

RICHARDSON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball dropped the second game of its Friday doubleheader to UT-Dallas, 6-5, in 11 innings Friday evening at UTD Baseball Field.

The Comets scored a run in the sixth and seventh inning to send the game into extra-innings before eventually walking off the Bulldogs in the 11th inning.

Texas Lutheran took an early 3-0 lead, scoring in the top of the second inning on a two-run home run from Garrett Helpenstill (Pearland/Lutheran South), the first of his career, and an RBI single from Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson).

Brendan Beard (Coldspring/Coldspring-Oakhurst) continued his shutout inning streak into the fourth inning before a two-out Comets RBI double ended the shutout and brought the game to a 3-1 score.

An RBI groundout from Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) in the top of the fifth got the run back and an infield RBI single from Xavier Arias (La Vernia/Nixon-Smiley) increased the Bulldogs lead to 5-1.

A two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth from the Comets started the UT-Dallas comeback as they would score in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to claw back and tie the game 5-all.

The Bulldogs had the bases loaded in the top of the 10th but were unable to score. The Comets walked it off with a lead-off solo home run in the bottom of the 11th.

Texas Lutheran will look to avoid the sweep on Saturday as they conclude the series with the Comets at 12 PM at UTD Baseball Field. Saturday's game will not be streamed but live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
