#RV TLU Baseball Beats Sul Ross State, 12-3

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball clinched the series win over Sul Ross State with a 12-3 win over the Lobos Saturday night at Katt-Isbel Field.

The Bulldogs (2-0) will go for their first series sweep of the season on Sunday at 12 PM.

Brendan Beard (Coldspring/Coldspring-Oakhurst) pitched five shutout innings in his first start since the 2021 season. He struck out five batters, allowed five hits and no walks.

Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) and R.J. Carrillo (Alice/Alice) continued to swing hot bats Saturday. Peavy would go 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, his second home run in as many days, while Carrillo would go 2-for-4 with a three-RBI double and two runs scored. All-American first baseman Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) would hit his first home run of the season, a two-run home run in the first inning. With the home run, Post moved within two of former teammate Tyler Cauley (41) for second on the TLU all-time home run list while his career RBI total moves to 180 - passing Aaron Crais for third all-time.

After a slow start offensively on Opening Day, Tyler Post got the TLU offense going in the first with a two-run home run to give TLU an early 2-0 lead.

Two singles and a walk would load the bases to start the bottom of the second. Aric Vasquez (San Antonio/Brandeis) would ground out to shortstop to increase the lead to 3-0 before Adam Peavy would double the Bulldogs lead with a three-run home run to take a 6-0 lead into third.

A dropped fly ball by Sul Ross with two outs in the bottom of the fifth would allow another run to cross in the bottom of the fifth as TLU inched towards run-rule territory Saturday.

The Lobos cut into the Bulldogs' lead with two runs in the second inning to make the score 7-2.

R.J. Carrillo would hit a bases clearing double in the bottom of the sixth before scoring on a Sul Ross State throwing error to bring the TLU lead to 11-2 and one run away from a Saturday night run-rule.

A seventh inning RBI single from the Lobos cut the Bulldogs lead to 11-3. An RBI single from Aric Vasquez added one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to bring the game to its final score.

Freshman Garrett Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) would make an impressive debut in the ninth inning - striking out the side in his first collegiate action to finish the game.

Texas Lutheran and Sul Ross State will square off in the series finale on Sunday, Feb. 4, at 12 PM at Katt-Isbel Field. All games this weekend will be streamed on TLU's YouTube Channel, TLU+. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
