Pacific Lutheran sweeps doubleheader from Texas Lutheran to grab series split

SEGUIN, Texas -- After dropping the first two games of a four-game series with Texas Lutheran, Pacific Lutheran posted 5-2 and 17-9 wins Saturday over the Bulldogs at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field.
 
TLU fell to 6-4 with the two home losses. PLU improved to 4-6 with the two road wins.
 
TLU won the first two games of the series. The Bulldogs won 2-1 on Thursday and 6-2 on Friday. Saturday's two games were seven-inning contests.
 
In game one, the Lutes scored three runs in the second, another in the third, and another in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
 
TLU scored a run in the fourth (with Tyler Cauley scoring from second on a wild pitch) and added a run in the fifth (on a Joe Jimenez single to left field).
 
Alex Gregory shut down the Bulldogs in the final two innings to claim his third save. He struck out two and allowed two hits.
 
Justin Tucker picked up the win in game one with five innings of quality work. Tucker (1-1) struck out four and walked one.
 
In game two, PLU took full advantage of 15 walks issued by TLU pitching. The Lutes also recorded 14 hits to go with those 15 walks.
 
The Lutes scored in every inning of the second game.
 
TLU cut the lead to 10-9 with a six-run fifth, but the PLU countered with a four-run sixth and a three-run seventh.

Gregory grabbed his fourth save (and second of the day), and Jacob Mortenson picked up the pitching win.
 
PLU third baseman Jordan Haworth went 5-for-5 with five RBI in game two. He reached base six times.
 
TLU is back in action next Saturday and Sunday with a two-game series against New Jersey City. Saturday's game starts at 7 p.m. Sunday's game begins at 6 p.m.
