Texas Lutheran Baseball claims third consecutive Team Sportsmanship award

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs are the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Team award winners for baseball for the third consecutive season.

The Bulldogs were one of 11 SCAC programs recognized by the league as Spring 2019 Sportsmanship Teams.

The SCAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee instituted the award prior to the 2016-17 academic year in an effort to honor the team that best portrays good sportsmanship and fair play from the players and coaches during the season.

The spring awards are presented in baseball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field.

On the field in 2019, the Bulldogs posted a 31-14 overall record and a 14-4 conference mark and were regularly ranked in the Top 25 among the two national polls for NCAA Division III.

The Bulldogs were the regular-season co-champion of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and finished as the SCAC Championship Tournament runner-up.

TLU received an at-large berth to the 2019 NCAA post-season and hosted its first-ever NCAA regional tournament. TLU played in the Seguin, Texas Regional Championship as the No. 2 seed.

TLU is coached by Greg Burnett, who just completed his 12th season as head baseball coach.

Southwestern University collected four of this year's SCAC Sportsmanship Team awards. University of Dallas and Colorado College each claimed two awards.

Austin College, Centenary College and TLU took the remaining three honors.

Both TLU Baseball and Southwestern Women's Golf earned the honor three straight seasons.

Austin College Women's Tennis picked up the distinction in back-to-back years.

Colorado College Men's Track & Field earned the accolade for the second time in the last three years.
